Last trimester we participated in multiple in class debates. Each class picked ten topics to debate; most classes picked the same topics. The first debate was abortion, the second gun control. Each class was evenly split up into two groups; the pros and the cons. Groups were decided by student view unless the groups were uneven. If this occurred, students were challenged as they had to defend a side was not their view. Both sides researched the the pros and cons of the subject, then the class splits into two groups for the debate. Each member of the group participated in supporting their reason for why the topic should be legal or outlawed. The debate wasn’t super heated in most classes, it was civil and organized. The classes never really had a clear answer for who won the debate but it was a very fun project to do. At the end of the debate each student wrote an essay on the topic and turn it in for credit. The essay was easy since each student had done research on the pros and cons of the topic.
